Saanich municipal councillor Vicki Sanders was kind enough to let us know that Saanich council will be discussing legalizing secondary suites at the council meeting to be held on April 13, 2010 at 7:30 pm, in the Saanich council chambers. As she says, this is your chance to weigh in on this subject, to which we'll add: in front of the people who will move this forward, or keep the status quo.

At the AGM, we adopted this statement of our association boundaries:
The operations of the Association are to be carried out in the Camosun area of south-east Saanich, namely, the area bounded by Derby Street and Mount Tolmie Park in the north; following the East side of Richmond Road between Derby Street and Mount Tolmie Park; the boundary of the District of Oak Bay and the District of Saanich in the east; the boundary between the City of Victoria and the District of Saanich in the south and west; following the East side of Cedar Hill Road from its intersection with North Dairy Rd and Finlayson St, to its intersection with Derby Street.

At the AGM, we adopted these changes to our associaion by-laws:
Article 3
In complement to Article 3, (Part II Membership) of Schedule B of the BC Society Act:
Art 3. (c) Membership is open to young persons and adults (age 17 and older) who own real estate or reside in the Camosun Area. The Secretary or Membership Director will review and decide upon applications for membership.
Article 16
Replace article 16 (3), (Part IV of Schedule B of the BC Society Act), by:
Article 16 (3) A quorum is 15 members or 15% of the membership, whichever is greater, or a greater number that the members may determine at a general meeting at which they are present, or on-line in the case of a telephone conference call or an electronic conference exchange.
and eliminate from current bylaw:
8.2 Quorum at a General Meeting is 15 members or 15% of the membership, whichever is greater.
Article 30
Article 30. (1) The Directors may meet at such places or by such telecommunication processes (telephone conference call, electronic on-line conference, e-mail exchange, etc.) as they think fit for the dispatch of business, adjourn or otherwise regulate their meetings and proceedings, as they see fit.
The recent massive earthquake in Haiti should make us all on the West Coast of Canada aware of just how vulnerable we are to the forces of nature. Our building codes and regulations may give us some advantage, but when the earth moves, will you be prepared?
Here is a website which maps earthquake hazards in Victoria. The Provincial Emergency Program offers this manual on how to reduce your risks. Finally, you may want to read up on the Cascadia Subduction Zone, the name given to the convergent tectonic plate boundary that runs from northern Vancouver Island to northen California; it's the tectonic processes within this zone that most affect us here in the Victoria area.
For a quick look, here's a map of our area cut from the composite earthquake hazards map, from the first website referenced above, with the CCA boundaries indicated, plus the legend on how to interpret the colours. See the linked map for a larger view of the Greater Victoria Area.
Here are the changes to the CCA constitution and bylaws that are to be put forward at our upcoming AGM.

This change is a regularization of the decision made at the summer 2009 AGM of the CCA to alter the borders as shown on this map.
